FAQ's
What is an EDU?
(Equivalent Dwelling Unit) is a unit of measurement used to assess the demand on a sewer system, typically defined as the average flow from a single-family residential household.
Why did I get a CERTIFIED WATER SHUT OFF NOTICE?
While we deal with sewage, any time your past due balance is past $100.00 (per EDU), we are permitted to issue water shut offs. Water can and will be shut off for failure to pay.
The process: If you are past due, as described above, MABS will send your monthly bill via certified mail. You have at least 10 days to respond. If the bill is paid, your account is longer in threat of termination. If you do not pay within that time frame, your home will be posted. That means a bright orange posting will be secured to the main entrance of your home or business. The posting will tell you when the amount due needs to be paid by. If you do not make payment by the deadline, your water can and will be shut off.
When does sewage bill?
Bill's are generated on the 29th of each month. Bill's are typically mailed on the 30th of each month.
When am I charged a late fee?
A 5% late fee is charged after the 10th of each month.
What happens if my water gets shut off?
If your water gets shutoff due to non-payment, you will need to take steps to have the water turned back on.
You will need to pay the following: The FULL AMOUNT DUE, not the past due amount that was required to stop water shutoff. You will also need to pay $87.50 as this is billed to us by MAWC for the shutoff. You will need to pay that amount again for the water turn on. Here is an example: If the full balance on your account is $200.00, you will be required to pay $375.00 to get it turned back on, $200 + $87.50 + $87.50 = $375.00.
Please note that MABS is not able to make payment arrangements to reestablish water service.
